Studying in Canada doesn’t always mean you need a study permit.
While in most cases, a Canadian study permit is required for foreign nationals to pursue education in Canada at any level, there are certain circumstances in which individuals may be exempt from this requirement.
Family members or private staff members accompanying a foreign diplomat or accredited representative do not require a study permit to pursue education in Canada. In this context, family members include spouses or common-law partners, dependent children of the individual or their spouse/common-law partner, and dependent children of a dependent child.
Members of the armed forces of a country designated as a state under the Visiting Forces Act are exempt from the study permit requirement when studying in Canada.
